Shaughnessy to replace Williams on Hopman Cup team

Meghann Shaughnessy, out for almost the entire 2008 season with a knee injury, has been named to replace Serena Williams in Hopman Cup competition. Williams withdrew because of a hamstring injury. Shaughnessy, playing for the United States, will be paired with James Blake.

Hmmm, either Meghann doesn't believe in omens, or she desires to experience a sense of deja vu so that she can get a "do-over."

Remember, she substituted for Serena in the Hopman early matches last season, too (only to have Serena arrive, then win the title w/ Fish), then got hurt the next week.

I thought about that. I imagine that, by now, Meghann is so eager to play tennis, she's willing to tempt fate.
